Disco purse – DIY

Hello everybody,
Last but not least in my disco theme is this super easy disco purse/pencil case/clutch bag tutorial. No matter the size you need, the basics remain the same. I’m a novice at sewing – I basically started using a sewing machine for the first time a week ago – so I’m not kidding when I say that you can do this project, as we say in French, ‘fingers in the nose’ (disclaimer: I don’t actually suggest that you should have your fingers up your nose when sewing, that might prove tricky 😉 ).
I found the pink glitter fabric here. I was really pleased with it, it’s great quality and quite thick so I didn’t need to add any lining to the purse. The blue dots are made of an iron-on glitter fabric that I found here (although I realised later on that you could find it here too).

Are you ready? On your mark, get set, go! The tutorial is below…

For this DIY, you’ll need:
  • a zipper – size of your choice
  • glitter fabric and iron on glitter paper
  • a ruler
  • a pair of scissors
  • a hole puncher
  • a sewing machine (although this could be done by hand too) and an iron

First, cut two pieces of glitter fabric the length of your zip (you can choose the width). Then, sew the zip to the pieces as shown above.

Next, fold the two pieces front against front and sew the three other sides. Remember to keep the zip open as you will need to turn fabric out through the hole.
Finally, with the hole puncher, make circles in your iron on glitter paper (I used 20 for this pencil case) and iron them onto the pencil case by pressing down hard for 20 seconds, making sure to put a piece a cloth between the iron and the glitter fabric to avoid burning it.
You can also add a bow. I made mine with some leftover fabric and a glue gun, super simple!
